Reborn Care Instructions

Congratulations on your adoption! You have chosen a beautiful custom reborn by Lilypie Reborn Nursery.  If cared for properly, your baby will bring many years of joy to you.  Most importantly, your new baby is not a play doll and is now a quality collectible and needs to be handled very gently. A good rule of thumb for handling your baby is that you should not handle him/her in any way you would not handle a real baby.

Your baby should be kept away from extreme heat and cold. Heat is more dangerous because the vinyl becomes very soft and pliable when heated and can become warped or even melt.  You should never leave your baby in a hot car or displayed near any type of heat source.  Your baby should be kept away from excessive moisture, which can cause mould damage. DO NOT USE ANY CLEANING SOLVENTS OR ALCOHOL on your baby!

Although it’s tempting to buy baby products for cleaning your baby, most baby products contain alcohol which can damage baby’s paint and compromise the vinyl. If your baby becomes dusty or dirty you can gently dust him off gently with a clean wash cloth. Any dirt on the vinyl can be wiped clean with a slightly damp wash cloth followed by a towel to dry baby.

Care should be taken when posing your baby.  The arms and legs are on a jointed body so they can be gently posed, but should never be forced; they are filled with tiny glass beads for additional weight.  Extreme pressure on the seams of the body can cause tearing.

The manicured finger and toes can be chipped from excessive handling.  Do not pull on your baby’s fingers and toes, you may tear the vinyl.

Purchased clothing hardly ever fit your doll exactly because they are made for human babies.  And, in most cases, the necklines are too large.  However, with a couple of simple adjustments, you can easily fix the problem and the clothes will look great on your baby doll.  For the neckline, if you’re a sewer, just snip the inside neck edge of the folded over binding and run some elastic through the “casing” and stitch each end to hold the elastic in place.  If you don’t sew, you can easily just pinch the neckline and then make a “tuck” in the back of the garment and secure with a small baby safety pin or a couple of hand stitches.....
